In today’s digital ecosystem, APIs are the engine that drives innovation, scalability and efficiency in organisations. But as companies grow, so does the complexity of their infrastructure and the need for robust API governance that ensures security, traceability and control throughout the entire lifecycle. For this reason, many companies are considering migrating to an API Manager that meets these characteristics.
This was precisely the challenge faced by lyntia, a neutral wholesale operator with more than 56,000 km of fibre optic network in the Iberian Peninsula, when it decided to modernise its API management platform and migrate to IBM API Connect.
This process was carried out in collaboration with CloudAPPi, with a key result: a complete migration, without interruptions and with a more robust and scalable governance model.

The challenge: modernising without halting operations
Lyntia had a growing API ecosystem, with different teams and services that needed a unified vision to ensure consistency and security for each integration.
Its main objective was clear: to migrate from its previous API Manager to IBM API Connect, without affecting daily operations or API consumers.
In addition, the project had to enable:
- Centralised API management under a common, standardised model.
- Ensure traceability and security in all interactions.
- Ensure operational continuity, even during migration.
- Strengthen API governance, facilitating self-consumption and reuse by different areas.
With all this in mind, the CloudAPPi team got to work to achieve a secure, stable and reliable API Manager migration.
The solution: intelligent and collaborative migration
CloudAPPi approached the project with a gradual and controlled migration strategy, specifically designed to keep both environments running in parallel and avoid any operational impact.
Some of the key success factors included:
Establishing unified guidelines and templates for API creation and documentation, ensuring technical and visual consistency.
Developing a technical “interceptor” that allowed both API managers (the legacy system and the new one) to operate simultaneously, enabling a smooth transition with zero service disruption.
Configuring IBM API Connect as the new governance core, providing advanced capabilities in management, security, and monitoring.
Continuous support for lyntia’s teams, both technically and organisationally, ensuring effective and sustainable adoption of the new environment.
The future towards API governance
The Lyntia case demonstrates that migrating an API management platform does not have to involve risk or disruption. With a well-planned strategy, the right tools, and expert support, it is possible to evolve towards a more secure, efficient model that is prepared for growth.
At CloudAPPi, we help organisations modernise their API ecosystem and adopt robust governance models that drive innovation and reduce technical complexity.
