APIs and DevOps: The combination that boosts your company’s scalability
In this ebook, produced in collaboration with Gravitee, we explore the tools DevOps teams can use to automate the design, testing, and deployment of their APIs.
What is the relationship between APIs and DevOps, and how are they managed in a modern environment?
Nowadays, DevOps and APIs can no longer be understood in isolation. APIs are the backbone of integration in modern architectures, while DevOps enables software to be deployed and operated in an agile, scalable, and secure way. When both worlds are combined through API Management, APIOps emerges—an approach that allows you to:
Manage the full lifecycle of an API, from design to production.
Monitor, version, and secure APIs in hybrid and multicloud environments.
Automate deployments, implement CI/CD, IaC, and continuous testing for integrations.
At CloudAPPi, together with our partners such as Gravitee, we explain in this ebook how to integrate APIs and DevOps to enhance your company’s scalability and security.
What’s included in this ebook?
- Introduction to DevOps: practices, tools, and the daily work of a modern team.
- The role of APIs in the DevOps era: how they accelerate deployments and integrations
- Criteria for choosing an API Management platform: design, deployment, security, analytics, and developer experience.
- How to apply API Management in DevOps: gateways, documentation, monitoring, security, and analytics.
- Technical and strategic challenges: from collaborative culture to automation and security.
- The CloudAPPi proposal: how we help you implement APIOps with secure, scalable, and monitored APIs.

Frequently asked questions about the relationship between APIs and DevOps
APIOps is the application of DevOps principles to the API lifecycle. While DevOps focuses on CI/CD, infrastructure, and operations, APIOps incorporates API management (versioning, documentation, security, monitoring) into development pipelines.
Using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions, it is possible to automate the deployment of OpenAPI definitions in an API Manager (Apigee, Gravitee, AWS API Gateway, etc.), applying quality and security validations before publishing them.
It provides a single point of entry with policy control, unified authentication, rate limiting, traffic auditing, and monitoring. This reduces operational complexity and improves system security and scalability.
API Managers enable multiple versions to be published in parallel, applying controlled deprecation policies. This is integrated into DevOps pipelines with automated testing per version, ensuring backward compatibility and minimising the risk of disruption.
