Frequently asked questions about the Cyber Resilience Act
The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) was created to improve the cybersecurity of products with digital components in the European Union. Its main objective is to protect companies and consumers who purchase these products.
The Cybe Resilience Act came into force on 10 December 2024. From this date, affected companies and organisations have around three years, until December 2027, to prepare, as this is when the mandatory and full application of the regulations will come into force.
Companies that are required to implement the CRA will need to prepare to ensure they can meet the new requirements. To do so, they will need to audit their digital products to verify the effectiveness of their cybersecurity measures. It is also recommended that they train their teams in this area so that they can identify active and future risks.
Being cyber resilient means having the ability to withstand, recover and evolve in the face of potential cyber threats, ensuring operational continuity and minimising damage. In other words, it means not only having the ability to withstand attacks, but also learning from them, anticipating possible consequences and taking them into account to prevent services from going down.
The EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) affects all manufacturers, distributors and importers of digital products that are marketed in the European market, regardless of their location within or outside the EU. This includes software and hardware manufacturers and those offering digital services.
